I cannot believe it's been exactly a decade since we last heard Park Hyo Shin's voice. Although he's not 'in our face', almost all ages know him because of the never-ending covers of Snow Flower. My recent listenings include Joo Won's bus performance on 1 Night 2 Days and a string quartet version, live on a small stage in Seoul Int. Airport. I, myself also guilty of unconsciously playing the tune on my violin from time to time.
I still remember the beginnings of my kdrama obsession. Endless youtube videos and fan page sites lead me onto the past and (then-)current top 10 kdramas. Of course, I'm Sorry, I Love You is a definite spotter. And so the fan obsession cycle revives itself in half a week. Finish 16 ep drama - replay sweet scenes - google image actors - youtube interviews - download ost(s) - replay theme song. Endlessly. Alright, enough about my teenage fandooms. Back to Mr Park. I confess that I havn't kept up with recent k-dramas such as Marry Him If You Dare - which Park Hyo Shin sang an ost for. I listened to It's You after Wild Flower, and perhaps because I didn't have the necessary drama scenes floating in my head, the song didn't really live up to my expectations. Nevertheless, I'm glad to see that his comeback was a success with his single Wild Flower topping the charts already. The moment the first second past, I felt the relive-ballade-days sensation flood right through me. The short instrumental introduction crescendo-ing into his deep, rich and husky voice combines both memoirs and new experience. But don't expect an immediate build-up like Jung Joon Young's Spotless Mind. He takes things slow. I like that. Subtle percussive and chordal build up creates a much better effect for the mind that wants some background music. Nicely suited for scrolling through sepia images or perhaps a walk through a park by yourself. Seeing the music video shoot happening? I would definitely recommend this song to anyone. You don't have to be a K-Pop fan.
