Was looking out for a new k-pop release. First heard Yozoh's Day Dream, it wasn't that bad, liked the visual presentation but not really the song itself. Then I heard Push & Pull. Liked the beginning so I decided to try writing a review on it. Here goes.
Since I've already mentioned visual aspect, let's talk that. Not too keen on the green filter (not sure what kind of instagram/aviary effect you'd call it, but either way - not my cup of tea. What I did like though was the camera shifting speed and change in the len's focus. Also really liked the smooth scene changes from walking around different streets to his still guitar playing. Not my #1 current hit song, but it was definitely great to listen to - not just once. I guess it obviously had to have some kind of standing seeing it's the title track of his first mini-album, The Manual. I liked how his voice came straight in after a couple of intro beats. Shut the fuss, get to the point. Nice. *Thumbs up* Loved the groove of the song when he actually sang words, but I started to lose sense of the song when he started to sing da-la-da improv syllables... Plus, nice guitar and drum accompaniment. Oh and did I mention that he composed the song? Mystic89's latest talent, Eddy Kim, composed all six songs in his mini-album. Wishing him all the best for his bright future!

Such an awesome music video! I absolutely love it!
Ok so allow me to confess that I'd already been addicted with Park Sihwan's My Love - a song he sung in Superstar K5. The fact that he lived up to my expectation with I Just Loved You meant this nothing-but-postivity review post was definitely coming up. Firstly, let's discuss the song itself. I loved the energy created by Park's airy yet full of strength voice supported by an enthusiastic drum accompaniment. The confidence he exudes in the climax points and high notes also brings out a fantastic sensation. The short whispering section towards the end of the song also allows the listener to retain an excited emotion with its attention-seeking effect. Next up, visual creativity. 5 stars. Maybe I'm just too much of a hermit to not realise perhaps someone else has already done it before. Nevertheless, it's my first time witnessing it. So here goes. I could not take my eyes off how in-sync the changing images were on each phone. If you have no idea what I'm on about - watch the mv! I honestly cannot imagine how it was done, unless someone with a lot of dedication worked behind the scenes to plan out all the time frames/details out. That guy definitely deserves more that just a pat on the back. For a finishing touch, I love the elegant and simple ring on white, clean backdrop ending. Also, was wondering...did they have an audition for whose hands to use in the music video? They're a nice pair of hands. So what do you think about it? A nice surprise to the end of the day. Click on the play button and you'll know. Something short and sweet is all I'm asking for.
Having not even listened to more than half of it I already knew: new post time. And I just pressed the replay button. Strangely addictive song. Maybe because I wasn't expecting to hear English, a male voice harmonising halfway through, and the classic la-la-las. Her airy, breathy voice suits the light, shady interior design, creating an overall relaxed, fluffy meringue song. Visually, I was very much attracted by the initial single bright, red rose against a white backdrop entrance. The following soft turning camera motions and filtered discolouration slowly shifted the camera sharpness to a modern cafe setting (classic k-indie mv - but never too old.) |
